Head Coach Callaway Mefford

Callaway Mefford began her first season as the Women’s Volleyball Head Coach at St. Thomas University in 2012 and quickly made a major impact on the STU program. Mefford led the Bobcats to a 16-7 (.696) overall record and a second-place finish in the Sun Conference tournament. For her efforts, Mefford was named the Coach of the Year for The Sun Conference and her players netted two first-team All-Conference honors Newcomer Player of the Year award and an AVCA All-Region Honorable Mention (Taylor Allgeier). During the regular season, the Bobcats snapped eighth ranked Embry-Riddle's conference consecutive set wins streak at 64 with a set win on Sept. 28 at the Fernandez Family Center.

In 2013, Coach Mefford led the Bobcats to a 15-14 record and a 7-4 record in the Sun Conference. For the second straight season she also lead the Bobcats to the Sun Conference Championship match. Her players were recognized by the Sun Conference with Nicole McInnis and Dana Nowaczyk earning First Team honors and newcomer Marisa Markus earning Second Team honors. McInnis was also national recognized when she was named to the AVCA All- Southeast Regional Team.

Before arriving at St. Thomas, Mefford spent three seasons as the head coach at Oldham County High School in Buckner, Ky. In her first year, Mefford’s team advanced to the Elite Eight in the school’s first-ever Kentucky State Tournament appearance. For her accomplishments in her inaugural season at Oldham County, she was named Kentucky’s Region 8 Coach of the Year. In her three years at OCHS, she complied an 85-25 record (winning percentage of .773) leading her team to two district and two regional finals winning one district and one regional championship. She finished her stay at OCHS with the team ranked 11th in the state, the highest ranking in school history.

Mefford also coached for two years at Alabama Juniors and one year at KIVA, one of the top club volleyball programs in the nation. The Louisville, Ky native began her volleyball career playing Division I at Samford University from 2003-2006. She was an outside hitter and libero and ranked third in Career Digs and third in Single Season Digs in the Samford record books.

Mefford graduated from Samford in 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism/Mass Communications and also graduated from University of the Cumberlands in 2010 with a Master’s in Education. Mefford resides in Ft. Lauderdale with her husband and assistant coach Jason.
